When God opens up his good treasure it brings in the overflow. There is a prerequisite to get Him to go into His good treasure for you. It’s not just about your good works or what God knows about your heart. It is clear in the word that if we should hearken (hear) diligently unto the voice of the Lord, and observe his commandments, the good treasure is one of his promises (Deut. 28:1). Hearkening diligently is not just listening to what He has to say, but hearing it and earnestly making an effort to observe his commandments. Is it possible to adhere to all of his commandments?
I don’t believe its God’s intent for us ace the commandment test, but I do believe this is why he tells us to observe his commandments. Think about the holidays we observe in the United States. I believe God wants us to also set aside a special place in our lives to observe his commandments. Observing is not just to read the commandments of the Lord either. The word ‘observe’ means to conform one’s action or practice. We are to actually make an earnest effort to conform our actions to the law of the Spirit. We should observe His commandments, striving to allow the word to transform us to obey them through His grace.
Once we partake in hearkening diligently to His voice and observing His commandments, then will he open up to us His good treasures! I think about the Queen of Sheba going to King Solomon’s home out of curiousity. After communing with him and allowing him to share his wisdom with her, she gave to him out of her own treasure, but King Solomon with an overflow of treasures, gave Queen of Sheba all her desire! Whatsover she asked, beside that which she had brought unto the king, he gave her (2 Chron. 9:12). He opened up his good treasure unto her, giving her back what she had given to him and more.
What are God’s good treasures? Let’s look back at our scripture (Deut. 28:12);
The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give rain unto thy land in his season…
1. Rain in due season. Just as Joel explained the Lord will cause the rain to come down. The former and the latter rain (Joel 2:23).
…and to bless all the work of thine hand…
2. Bless all the works of your hand. The Lord promises to bless all thy works of your hand. Not some, but all! Every work you set your hands to will prosper. Your works are a part of his good treasure!
…and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and not borrow.
3. Overflow so that you can give. You will have more than enough to lend and not be a borrower.
You see the Lord’s good treasure is available to you. Just remember that if he opens up His good treasure to you, know that it not just for you. It is for you to share with others.
